Artist Creates Anthony Rizzo Painting for a Great Cause

Even if you don’t know who John Hanley is, you’ve probably seen his work. John has created phenomenal artwork for books, promotions, and posters for advertisers, Fortune 500 companies, and the movie industry. But his real passion is his work with legendary athletes, and that’s what John is best known for.

John’s latest project is a collaboration with Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, an original painting that will be on display at his booth at the Cubs Convention (to which we’re giving away passes) in January. 144 signed limited-edition prints are being sold now, with ALL proceeds going to the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation to provide support to families and children battling cancer.

The foundation was established in 2012, born out of Rizzo’s desire to be a role model to cancer patients and their families. As you may know, the Cubs superstar had his own battle with cancer in 2008 when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 18.

A tribute to that strength and drive, John’s creation is a 22 x 28 masterpiece that captures the beauty and power of Rizzo’s swing. It is fully authenticated by MLB and comes with a price tag of $150. I’ve got to be honest, I’ve seen some items at memorabilia shops that have far less quality at far higher prices.

A quick glance reveals some pretty incredible depictions of Blackhawks, Cubs, and Sox greats alongside Frankenstein’s Monster and his bride, not to mention likenesses of Clayton Kershaw, Nolan Ryan, and Julie Newmar as Catwoman.

This is some pretty cool stuff, folks, and I’m not saying this to shill for John, either. I’ve never met the guy, but I first saw something about the Rizzo work on Twitter and wanted to let a few more people know about it. When John reached out to Cubs Insider recently, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get the word out.
