Carl Edwards, Jr. Takes Over as the New #1 Cubs Prospect
As expected today, Addison Russell left the top of Cubs Top 30 Prospect List on MLB.com. Taking his place at #1 is Carl Edwards, Jr.
Edwards is currently at AAA Iowa where he is working on transitioning to a relief role. Edwards is 2-2 with a 3.28 ERA for the year and has struck out an amazing 36 batters in 24 innings. However, he has also walked 20. Once he gets his walks down, Edwards will be in the Chicago bullpen, hopefully by the end of the summer.
Tennessee Smokies starter Ivan Pineyro slides in at #30. Pineyro, who came to the Cubs in a trade in 2013 for Scott Hairston, is 4-3 with a 3.36 ERA for AA Tennessee this year. He has struck out 54 in 56.1 innings over 10 starts.
