SportsCenter to Air Special Segment Sunday, April 3, on Chicago RBI Kids
Be sure to watch ESPN SportsCenter this Sunday, April 3. They’ll be airing a segment on a group of inner-city Chicago teens who participated in the Union League Boys and Girls Club’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) team (pictured above).
The Chicago Cubs, Major League Baseball, American Airlines and Starwood Hotels partnered together to surprise the kids with an all-expense paid trip to participate in the Cubs’ spring training camp and hang out with the team. They were also honored before the Cubs’ Cactus League game against the Royals at Sloan Park on Sunday, March 20, 2016.
The primary goal of the Clubs’ Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program is to provide young people ages thirteen to eighteen with access to baseball leagues, while teaching critical educational and social skills through positive athletic competition. RBI seeks to create a standard of excellence in youth sports programs that expands beyond the fundamentals of baseball to promote academic achievement, responsibility, and growth.
