Weekend Rewind: Home Runs Fly, Arrieta Crushing, Lester Close Call
Here’s a quick catch-up in case you missed anything from over the weekend.
Friday, May 13th
- We talked about the rumors swirling about Jake Arrieta’s future with the Cubs, Jason Heyward’s slump, and Theo’s take on the Cubs’ hot start.
- The Cubs beat the Pirates by hitting three home runs (video). The final score was 9-4 and it wasn’t even that close.
Saturday, May 14th
- Jake Arrieta was stellar again and the Cubs hammered the Pirates 8-2. Both Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell hit towering home runs (video).
- Miguel Montero returned from the DL this weekend, Joe Maddon discussed his decision to keep Tim Federowicz on the Big League team and that caused us to want to speculate about when we’ll see Willson Contreras in the Majors. Click here to read more about it.
Sunday, May 15th
- Jon Lester had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning but Gerrit Cole was too good, the Cubs lost 2-1.
- And Gerrit Cole is apparently the only person around who thinks the Cubs need to work harder and get better. We wrote about his silly comment here.
