Cubs Clips: WATCH Heyward’s Big-Time Hustle, Rizzo’s Smokin’ Double, Pitching Mastery, More
Yep, the Cubs have won six games in a row and that little bump in the road last week is all but forgotten. It’s been a brutal stretch for Anthony Rizzo too — who was batting .161 in his last 18 games — so it was great to see him smoke an RBI double last night to drive in Jason Heyward, who decided he’d test Yasiel Puig and tried to score from first — hint, Heyward won.
Joe Maddon discussed the big win in his postgame comments. Jason Hammel’s early exit seemed like a bad thing at the time but the bullpen turned in an incredible performance allowing no hits in their seven innings of relief. Travis Wood was the stalwart for the Bullpen, pitching four innings of no-hit ball.
“They all were really, really efficient, good pitches, good location, good stuff,” Maddon said of the bullpen’s performance. “Travis set the tone for the whole thing.”
