Chicago Cubs Lineup: Young Guns – Candelario at 3rd, Contreras Catching, Almora in Center
Happy fourth of July everybody! Today is a great day for our incredible country and would also be a wonderful day for the Chicago Cubs (51-30) to get back to their winning ways. They couldn’t have picked a better (or worse as the case may be) team that the Cincinnati Reds to do it against. They don’t quite have the worst record in the National League, but it’s close.
I love this lineup because it’s absolutely chock-full of young studs for the Cubs.
For the second straight game Jeimer Candelario – the recent call-up from Iowa – gets the start at third base. Willson Contreras is back behind the plate again today catching for Kyle Hendricks (6-6, 2-76 ERA).
It seems strange to say, but Kyle has been one of the Cubs most consistent starters lately. The Cubs could really use a nice long eight to nine inning outing from him today to help salve their bullpen.
Albert Almora is handling the duties in center field for injured Dexter Fowler. Meanwhile, Javier Baez is filling in for Ben Zobrist who is sitting out today.
Cubs Kingdom wishes you and yours a fun-filled day, stuffed full of libations, celebrations and good living – cheers!
