Rumor: Cubs Working on Deal to Send Vogelbach to Seattle for LHP Montgomery
Well here we go. It’s nearing the trade deadline and, if the rumors are true, it looks like the Cubs may be shipping first baseman Dan Vogelbach to Seattle for left hand pitcher Mike Montgomery.
Sources: Cubs and Mariners nearing a deal. LHP Mike Montgomery would go to Chicago. DH/1B Dan Vogelbach would be a piece going to Seattle.

Montgomery has been stellar out of the pen for the Mariners this year, posting a 2.15 ERA over 50.1 innings pitched including 44 strikeouts. He’s held left handed hitters to a .162 ERA, can anyone say LOOGY?
This is a smart move by the Cubs and I really like it a lot. He’s only 27 years old and is under team control until 2022.
So what happened with the Cubs trying to acquire Andrew Miller? I’d imagine that the Cubs liked this move better or the Yankees wouldn’t move off Kyle Schwarber. Either way, this is a significant upgrade to the Cubs bullpen that will undoubtedly help them down the stretch.
