Report: Cubs Working on Trade of Top Prospect Gleyber Torres for Aroldis Chapman (UPDATE)
The Chicago Cubs top-rated prospect, according to Baseball Prospectus, Gleyber Torres, may be on the move to the New York Yankees for relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman. He was scratched from the Myrtle Beach lineup about 20 minutes prior to their game tonight.

Torres is only nineteen years old and has been impressive in his time in the Cubs minor league system. For his career he’s slashing .285/.358/.407. He was signed as a free agent by the Cubs in 2014 at the age of 16.
Aroldis Chapman (28) has been a dominant closer since he was moved into the roll in 2010 by the Cincinnati Reds. He’s registered over 30 saves in each of the last four seasons and is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2017. So if he turns out to be a good fit for the Cubs they’d need to resign him on the open market after the 2016 season.
UPDATE: Reports are that the deal is contingent on the Cubs signing Chapman to an extension. That makes a little more sense as to why they’d be willing to trade their top prospect. I’m not sure having Chapman for one year would be worth losing Torres, but we’ll have to wait and see.
They’ll be a lot more coming from this if and when it happens. We’ll keep you posted.
