Chicago Cubs Lineup: Double-Dippin’, Hammel Pitching; Rizzo, Zobrist and Bryant Playing Two

I figured it was easier to mention who was still in the lineup today for the second game of the double-header than to try to point out all the changes. There are a lot. And a look at this lineup compared to this morning’s lineup just goes to illustrate how versatile this Chicago Cubs team really is. Not many clubs could put together two lineups with so many different players and still have it be this good.

Jason Hammel has been stellar so far for the Chicago Cubs in the second half of the season. Yes, I just wrote that about Jason Hammel, someone who was starting to get a reputation as a guy that falls apart in the second half. He’s been the Cubs best pitcher so far since the All-Star break. Through 31.0 innings pitched he has a measly 1.16 ERA along with 5 wins.

The Cubs have changed the entire outfield in this game compared to the morning contest. Willson Contreras is in left field, Matt Szczur is in center and Jorge Soler is in at right field.

This is nearly the identical lineup, with the exception of David Ross playing instead of Miguel Montero, that put up 13 runs on Friday against Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals, who the Cubs now lead by 12.5 games.
