Chicago Cubs Lineup: Soler in Right, Szczur in Left, Montgomery on the Hill
Mike Montgomery, the Cubs newly acquired lefty, will make his first start tonight for the Chicago Cubs, a spot-start meant to provide some relief to the Cubs’ recently thinned – due to John Lackey’s shoulder strain that’s landed him on the DL – starting rotation. As we mentioned here, Montgomery has made 18 starts over the last two seasons for the Mariners so this isn’t unchartered territory for him.
Joe Maddon has decided to rest Jason Heyward for the entire Rockies series, that means that Jorge Soler, who’s been torching everything he swings at since his return from the DL, will cover right field and bat in the sixth spot in the order.
Matt Szczur will play left field tonight while Miguel Montero lines up behind the plate giving Willson Contreras the night off. Szczur is slashing .310/.394/.621 in August with a 162 wRC+. Not bad for a bench player.
