Chicago Cubs Lineup: Lackey Returns, Coghlan in Left, Rizzo Back at First Base
John Lackey (9-7, 3.41 ERA) returns from the disabled list today after he sustained a right shoulder strain pitching against the St. Louis Cardinals on August 14. Coming into the season, John was the number three pitcher in the rotation but with the emergence of Kyle Hendricks it remains to be seen where things will fall out come playoff time.
Today’s lineup for the Chicago Cubs (87-48) is more of the standard fare, with the exception of Chris Coghlan, who’s playing left field in the absence of Jorge Soler, who was scratched from yesterday’s lineup with an ingrown toenail – ouch!
Anthony Rizzo returns after taking the day off yesterday. Although he did make it in the game as a pinch hitter, drawing a walk. That means Kris Bryant heads back over to third base.
