Chicago Cubs Lineup: Hammel Pitching, Bryant & Russell Out, La Stella & Baez In
The Chicago Cubs (89-48) have won seven of their last eight games and are going for three in a row tonight as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers (60-77).
Jason Hammel (14-7, 3.14 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs. He had a great showing in his most recent outing, against the Pirates, lasting six innings and allowing only one run. That was after he allowed 13 runs in his prior two outings combined. Hopefully those two games were just a bump in the road of an otherwise great season for Jason.
The Cubs magic number is 10 and that means as they get closer and closer to clinching we’ll start seeing Joe Maddon resting some of the starters more frequently. That’s evident tonight with Kris Bryant and Addison Russell sitting out in favor of Tommy La Stella and Javier Baez. Two studs replacing two studs, not a lot to be unhappy about there.
Willson Contreras will get the night off and Miguel Montero is in the lineup batting 7th and catching for Hammel.
