Chicago Cubs Lineup: Arrieta Pitching, Almora in Right Field, Soler DH; Can ESPN Help Themselves?
The Chicago Cubs (90-51) can smell the division title. Jake Arrieta (16-6, 2.84 ERA) will be looking to reduce their magic number from seven games to six, possibly five pending the outcome of the Cardinals game – they’re currently trailing 1-0 in the top of the 8th to the Brewers.
The Cubs are throwing out an intriguing lineup today. Jorge Soler in as the designated hitter, Javy Baez at second base, Ben Zobrist in left field, Albert Almora in right field. There’s a lot of power there and hopefully the Cubs’ offense can get rolling tonight.
Another note of interest, the game tonight is on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and, knowing ESPN, I’m sure they’ll feel inclined to remind everyone with some silly, overproduced piece about how the Cubs haven’t won a World Series in 108 years, blah, blah, blah, goats, curses, you know the drill. I really, really hope I’m wrong. We’ll see but they seem to take every chance they get to remind the world of the obvious. Perhaps they’ll also let us know the sky is blue, we need oxygen to breathe, and baseball is fun. Who knows?
Here’s tonight’s Chicago Cubs lineup:
