You read that right. Kyle Schwarber has been sent to Mesa and, according to the Chicago Tribune, will start tonight for the Mesa Solar Sox in his first rehab start since his injury in April.

First, this is tremendously exciting news for Kyle to see that he’s been cleared to play after such a long rehab process. I can only imagine that he’s probably a little torn since I’m sure he wishes he could be at Wrigley Field tonight to support his teammates as they try to advance to the World Series.
Of course, you can’t help but speculate on the timing of this move, what with the Cubs one win away from the World Series, one that will include possibly four games where the designated hitter will be in play. That being because the American League has home field advantage for the World Series.
It’s been reported by ABC News that the Cubs have not ruled out a return for Schwarber if the team advances to the World Series. I’d say it’s probably a long shot, since he hasn’t seen a major league pitch since April, but it sure is fun to think about.
We’ll have much more on this as we get more information. Stay tuned.
