Cubs vs. Cardinals 2017 Opener Rescheduled, Will Showcase as Part of MLB’s Opening Day

The Chicago Cubs will open the 2017 season against the St. Louis Cardinals, that much has been known for a while. Now, we also know that the game has been moved from Monday, April 3rd to Sunday, April 2nd and will serve as one of three currently scheduled showcase games to be played on that Sunday.

The Cubs/Cardinals will join previously announced opening day games of Yankees vs. Rays and Giants vs. Diamondbacks. It’s unknown at this time if one of the other two games will be moved or if MLB will go with all three games on it’s opening day schedule. Of course, this is exciting for many reasons, not the least of which is that we now get to see the Cubs play one day earlier than we otherwise would’ve. The change makes it so that the Cubs will now have an off-day on Monday with the series set to resume on Tuesday and end on Wednesday.

The Cubs second series of the year will be in Milwaukee, a 3-game weekend series against the Brewers before heading home to play their home-opener on Monday, April 10th against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs will have Tuesday following their home-opener off before resuming that 3-game series on Wednesday, April 12th.

So, yeah, two of the Cubs’ first three 3-game series will each be spread out over four days.
