Cubs Trim Six Pitchers from Major League Camp
The Cubs thinned out the herd a bit today, assigning six pitchers to minor league camp. The move included righties Andury Acevedo, Ryan Williams, Daniel Corcino, and Fernando Rodriguez, along with lefties Gerardo Concepcion and Manny Parra.
No surprises here, though I’ve been thinking for a while now that Williams could have a future in the Bigs. This move brings the spring roster all the way down to 60, which includes 34 pitchers (10 non-roster invitees), six catchers (two NRI), 12 infielders (five NRI), and eight outfielders (three NRI).
Expect many similar announcements as the Cubs get closer to solidifying the team that’ll head north to open the season in St. Louis. Pitchers will be particularly susceptible, as their numbers will basically be cut by two-thirds to get down to an acceptable number.
