CI Recap – Cubs 9, Rockies 6: Hendricks Continues Strong Spring; Happ, Szczur, Candelario Fuel Win
In case you haven’t been paying attention, Kyle Hendricks has been having himself a very nice spring. He continued that trend today as he stuck around for 4 2/3 innings, allowing only two earned runs. If he can keep this momentum going as we head into the season, don’t be surprised to see him as a Cy Young award candidate once again.

On the offensive side, the Cubs took a 3-1 lead into the top of the 8th inning and then exploded for six runs. Matt Szczur hit a two-run home run and Ian Happ singled to drive in a run. Happ would come in to score when John Andreoli was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded (box score).
Stats that matter
- Jeimer Candelario went 2-for-3 including a double and a walk, scoring two runs
- Matt Szczur is quietly having a nice spring and bolstered his stats today going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a home run
- Wade Davis pitched well, striking out two while allowing one hit in one inning
Bottom line
In less than two weeks we get to see real, live baseball that actually counts.
On deck
The Cubs have Tuesday off. They’ll head to Goodyear on Wednesday to take on the Cincinnati Reds at 8:05 PM CDT.
