Cubs Quick Hits: Joe West’s Strike Zone Was Laughable And Embarrassing

Kerry Wood and Kevin Youkilis summed up all of our thoughts on Joe West as a human umpire.

Seriously though, what kind of strike zone was that during the series finale against the Yankees? Truthfully — and I’m operating purely off of memory here — I don’t think there has been a worse zone in at least my lifetime as a fan. Just going off of the FanGraphs zone below, I counted 40-ish pitches that West messed up. FORTY.

And Aaron Boone called the guy great during the broadcast. So I guess maybe it’s just my eyes or the chart above that are wrong.
