Chicago Cubs Lineup (Game 2): Jeimer Candelario Bats Cleanup, Zobrist Leading Off
The Cubs look to rebound after a 10-4 loss to the Rockies earlier today in the first game of today’s doubleheader. Joe Maddon hopes Jeimer Candelario, who was recalled from Triple-A Iowa earlier today and is batting cleanup, can help lead the charge.
John Lackey faces Kyle Freeland in a favorable matchup for the Cubs, who have a 57.4% win probability. Lackey, however, has given up a shower of homers this year (2.09 HR/9) and sports a 5.14 ERA. That doesn’t bode well for the Colorado environment.
Unlike Lackey, Freeland pitches to contact and has a superb 0.26 HR/9. The Rockies starting pitcher owns an impressive 2.65 ERA, but his xFIP of 4.31 suggests that he might not be able to get away with such a little amount of homers in the future.
Let’s hope the Cubs can raise Freeland’s homer rate. I’m feeling like we could see a deep shot from Candelario and Addison Russell tonight.
