Chicago Cubs Lineup: Kris Bryant in Right, La Stella at Third, Arrieta on the Bump
The Cubs are prepped for a doubleheader after their game yesterday against the Colorado Rockies was postponed due to bad weather. As you’d expect, the lineup that was released this morning is very similar to the one they were set to field last night.
As announced yesterday, Jason Heyward has been placed on the 10-day DL retroactive to May 6. That move opened the door for the Cubs to bring RHP Dylan Floro up to the team right when the bullpen needed it most. Don’t be surprised to see Floro make a relief appearance today for the Cubs, even as a potential long reliever. He’s gone at least 2 innings in five of his seven appearances, the last of which was a 4-inning start.
With Heyward on the DL we’re likely to see Kris Bryant playing outfield more than normal. While Bryant has started all 31 games this season at third base, he played 65 games in the outfield too last season. So don’t be surprised if he pulls off a web gem today.
Jake Arrieta will take the mound for the Cubs today. Believe it or not, he’s only pitched in one game at Coors Field. It was back in 2014 and, not surprisingly, it didn’t go well. He gave up 9 runs on 13 hits over 5.0 innings pitched. Sounds about right for a Coors Field debut. Hopefully things go better for him today.
Let’s play two!
