Chicago Cubs Lineup (Updated): Russell Scratched with Sore Shoulder, Almora in CF, Various Other Changes
Update: Expected start time for the game has been set for 3pm CT (fingers crossed)
Let’s hope Addison Russell’s removal from the lineup is strictly precautionary on what figures to be a damp day in Denver. This is also a good excuse to give Russell, who’s slashing .135/.224/.212 over his last 58 plate appearances, a mental break.
The first five spots in the order are unchanged, but Javy Baez now moves up to six and Albert Almora Jr. slots in at eight. So not a big shift for the order, though Joe Maddon had to play musical chairs in the field.
Baez moves from second to short while Tommy La Stella moves from third to second, which I like much better due to his subpar arm. Kris Bryant moves from the right corner of the outfield to the hot corner. Finally, Jon Jay moves over to right to accommodate Almora in center.
All things considered, not a bad lineup.
