Watch: Maddon Explains How Barometric Pressure, Earth’s Rotation Helped Lackey’s Breaking Ball
No, really. Joe Maddon talks in this video about how the conditions at Coors Field, with the higher humidity caused by the rainy weather, may have helped Lackey’s breaking pitches last night. Of course, he was really kidding…I think.
Lackey allowed no runs and only four hits while striking out 10 batters in the Cubs 8-1 win last night (recap here). That resulted in a 12.86 K/9, which was Lackey’s highest rate since July 10, 2016, in a game in Pittsburgh where he struck out nine batters over six innings.
