Cubs Roster Update: Ian Happ Called Up, Will Bat Second and Play RF
This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill. As first reported by Carrie Muskat, Ian Happ has been called up to the big leagues. I give you permission to freak out accordingly.

But don’t go getting your hopes up too much, as this is little more than a temporary move to alleviate some of the issues with the injury-depleted roster. It’s also a reward for beating the hell out of AAA pitching over the first month or so of the season.
Happ is slashing .298/.362/.472 with 9 home runs and 25 RBI on the season, but his versatility is equally impressive. He’s made 16 starts at second base and eight in the outfield, with at least one at each of the three spots. The ability to play the outfield is a big part of why he’s coming up, now that Matt Szczur is in San Diego and Jason Heyward is on the DL.
No corresponding move has been announced yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear.
