Eloy Jimenez Once Again Named to Futures Game World Team
Cubs fans have known about him for a while now, but Eloy Jimenez burst headlong into the greater baseball consciousness with a wild grab and a monster home run in last year’s Futures Game in San Diego. He’s perhaps lost a little juice with the ascension of Ian Happ and a shoulder injury that forced him to hang back in Mesa for a few weeks to start the season, but Jimenez has made up for lost time since his return.
He’s hitting .268/.357/.496 and has 7 home runs in only 123 at-bats so far at advanced-A Myrtle Beach, numbers that were good enough to get him named to the World Team (full rosters for both teams) yet again. This exhibition of the top prospects from across the minors will take place over All-Star weekend, specifically on Sunday, July 9 from Marlins Park in Miami at 4 pm ET.
Even if we don’t get a repeat of the heroics shown above, the Futures Game is a really fun event and gives fans the opportunity to see a bumper crop of tomorrow’s stars from various levels of their parent organizations showing out.
