Cubs Roster Update: Caratini & Zastryzny Optioned; Rivera & Uehara Activated
The Cubs picked up veteran catcher Rene Rivera off waivers on Saturday and, just like that, he’s starting Sunday afternoon. Alas, there must be a corresponding roster move and there is, meaning Victor Caratini will be heading back to Iowa. Unfortunately for Caratini, the move comes just a couple days removed from perhaps his best game as a major-leaguer on Friday when he went 3-for-3 including a double and a walk.

The Cubs are also sending recently recalled Rob Zastryzny back to Iowa to make room for Koji Uehara, who is being activated from the DL today. Uehara is coming off the 10-day DL for neck stiffness and will be looking to right the ship after giving up runs in his last two outings. Zastryzny did not pitch for the Cubs during this short stint with the team.
