Cubs Quick Hits: Kyle Schwarber’s Numbers Post Demotion
Kyle Schwarber was demoted in late June after a disappointing start that saw him fighting himself at the plate. Not long after we heard of his departure to Iowa, pictures surfaced of the hulking slugger working hours before game time on his swing.
He didn’t sulk. No excuses were made. Being demoted was viewed as an opportunity.
Schwarber took advantage of the chance to get back to his hitterish ways in Iowa. After starting the season off batting .171 with a .294 wOBA, Schwarbs came back to Wrigley and mashed his way to a .256 batting average and .378 wOBA. Such a strong second half improved his overall numbers to a .332 wOBA and wRC+ of 102.
That’s right: Even with that slow start, Schwarber produced more runs than an average MLB hitter this year.
