Cubs Quick Hits: Darvish Projects for More WAR Than Arrieta

If the Cubs were to sign Yu Darvish, they would move to the top the total team WAR projection list, according to the Steamer forecasting model.

But let’s imagine the Cubs don’t ink the Japanese ace and instead sign Jake Arrieta. Bringing the former Cy Young winner back to Chicago would project to one less win above replacement, or so says Steamer.

Darvish is projected to produce 3.6 WAR because o on what is expected to be a very nice 3.69 FIP, whereas Arrieta is anticipated to provide 2.7 WAR based largely on a 4.11 FIP.
