Watch: Bryant, Schwarber, Javy Take BP Friday
Spring training isn’t quite in full swing yet, but you’d never know from looking at the number of players already working out at the Cubs facility. The first full team workout is scheduled for Monday, but most of the players are already in town.
Today, I took my four-year-old son with me to check out the Cubs practice, so it was even more fun than normal. Willson Contreras signed a ball for him and then posed for a picture, so it’s safe to say my son has a new favorite player. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
You may have noticed that I have a propensity for taking pictures of Contreras in action. The guy has so much passion for the game and you can see it in every move he makes on the field. He’s a pretty good role model for my kids too, so seeing him interact with my son was really cool.
Love that @cubs @WContreras40 took the time to say ‘hi’ to my son, Sawyer. ❤❤❤ #CubsFanForLife #ThatsCub pic.twitter.com/DQbyBrH5OQ

If you’re heading to see the Cubs practice this Spring, be sure to check out the backfields and not just Field 1 — which is closest to the Under Armour Performance Center — since there’s usually more to see elsewhere. There are also usually smaller crowds at the backfields.
At Field 2 today, Jason Heyward, Kyle Schwarber, Kris Bryant and Javy Baez all took cuts in the cage. Yes, it’s early, but there is definitely a noticeable energy that feels a lot like it did the last time the Cubs won the World Series. You know, just a little over a year ago?
