Cubs Roster News: Heyward to Concussion DL, Bote Called Up, Mazzoni Swapped for Zastryzny
Turns out Jen-Ho Tseng getting a spot start in place of Yu Darvish wasn’t the only roster change in store for the Cubs Tuesday afternoon. The team also announced that Jason Heyward would hit the seven-day concussion protocol DL after crashing into the wall in an attempt to rob Dexter Fowler’s walk-off home run Sunday night. David Bote has been called up to take his place in the meantime.
The final move of the day is simply to get another fresh arm in Chicago, with Cory Mazzoni (who pitched the ninth inning of Monday’s win) going back down for Rob Zastryzny.

It’s certainly no surprise to see Bote back with the big league club, as he’s continued to tear things up at AAA Iowa. Bote had posted a .333/.393/.605 slash line in 20 games for the Iowa Cubs this season and he had one hit in nine at-bats during a brief stint in Chicago earlier this year.
As for Zastryzny, he’s posted a 2.35 ERA in 15.1 innings for Iowa this season. Rob has appeared with the Cubs during parts of 2016 and 2017, posting a 4.34 ERA in 29.0 innings pitched during his big league career.
