Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/22/19, SS): Adames Leads Off, Russell at SS, Underwood Faces Indians in Goodyear

Cristhian Adames has been a revelation so far this spring, batting .415 with a 1.213 OPS in 46 plate appearances. Even though that won’t continue, he’s stated his case for a roster spot with Daniel Descalso — one of the greatest clutch hitters in history — slowly working his way back from a sore shoulder. Adames will start at third in the nightcap of today’s split-squad contests.

Addison Russell is at short, relegated to the JV team due to his DV suspension. Ian Happ is at second with Mark Zagunis is in right. Victor Caratini has been hitting well in Mesa and he’ll be at first base in this one, followed by Johnny Field in left, Evan Marzilli in center, Taylor Davis catching, and Jared Young at DH.

Duane Underwood Jr. will be on the mound aiming to prove himself as a viable option for a Cubs team that is sure to need pitching reinforcements over the course of the season. After showing up on top prospect lists early in his career, injuries and inconsistent performance have forced him to the periphery over the last few seasons. He made his MLB debut last season, though, and his stuff plays when he’s healthy.

Corey Kluber will be starting for the Indians, so it may be a long night for the Cubs’ taxi squad. First pitch from Goodyear Ballpark is set for 8:05pm CT and can be heard on 670 The Score.
