Remember that Time Chris Coghlan Tried to Call Time Out, Didn’t Get it, then Hit a 2-run Single?
If you think this post is just a way to poke fun at how José Martinéz, Yadier Molina, and Cardinals head coach, Mike Shildt reacted to the umpire not granting Martinéz a time out in Saturday’s game, well, you’re spot on. Although, it’s also a way to show exactly how to handle said situation when it does occur.
Back in August of 2016 the Cubs were playing the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. Trailing by two runs with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 6th inning, Chris Coghlan came up to bat. The count was 3-2 and the crowd was on it’s feet. Coghlan attempted to call a time out, realized it wasn’t being granted, and quickly recovered to slap a line drive single into right field, scoring two runs. And hey, I was there and got video of the moment, which I present to you below.
Let this be an example to baseball fans everywhere, it’s quite possible to do something other than freak out when you aren’t granted time.
