Report: Addison Russell Called up to Cubs, Will Be in Chicago for Tonight’s Game
We knew this would eventually surface but we weren’t exactly sure how long it would take. Turns out we now know the answer. The Chicago Cubs have reportedly recalled Addison Russell from the Iowa Cubs and he will report in time for tonight’s game.
It’s unclear what the corresponding roster move will be to make room for Russell, but David Kaplan has indicated that perhaps Ben Zobrist and/or Daniel Descalso will be moved to the IL. That’s still TBD and once we get a formal announcement from the Cubs we’ll be sure to follow up on this.
The biggest question is where will Addison Russell play and how often? It’s hard to imagine him just being a bat off the bench, his skillset is such that sitting him wouldn’t be optimal and he’d be better off playing everyday in Iowa than logging substantial bench time in Chicago.
This is fluid story so we will update as we get more information.

Look for two roster moves from the Cubs today. I’m hearing Zobrist and Descalso to the IL. Addison Russell will be one of the players activated.
