Video: José Quintana Sets New Career High with 14 Strikeouts
That’s a Buick?
José Quintana damn sure didn’t look like a geriatric grocery-grabber Tuesday night in Philly. In fact, one might even see fit to compare him to a Mercedes. Or perhaps a Jaguar would be more fitting given the way the lefty was prowling on the mound and pouncing all over his opponents.
Q set a new career high with 14 strikeouts, a feat he accomplished in just six innings of work. That’s…wow. He’s the only other Cub to rack up so many K’s in so few frames since Kerry Wood on April 27, 2001 and is also just the second Cubs lefty in history to notch 14 strikeouts after Jon Lester did so on July 29, 2015.
Despite that, he couldn’t earn a decision because the score was tied 2-2 when he left after throwing 110 pitches.
