Watch: Anthony Rizzo Discusses Balky Back, Willson Contreras Races Around Mets Outfield
Anthony Rizzo told reporters in the Citi Field clubhouse that his back is “getting there,” but it might be a couple days before he could “get it to calm down and just manage it.” He was planning to take some swings to test it out, but it’s not looking as though he’ll make it into the lineup by Thursday. That already seemed like an overly positive estimate, so keep those fingers crossed for the weekend.

Willson Contreras exhibited no such trepidation as he sprinted through the damp outfield prior to Wednesday’s game. Based on that alone, he should be ready to go by September 1 when rosters expand.
