Chicago Cubs Lineup (9/14/19): Rizzo Leads Off, Zobrist at 2B, Hoerner SS, Hendricks on Bump
What kind of encore to the Cubs have in store after yesterday’s explosion? A win would push them past that much-maligned PECOTA projection, so that would be a good start.
Anthony Rizzo knows a little something about good starts and he’ll be in the leadoff spot again for this one. Nicholas Castellanos is second in right, Kris Bryant bats and plays third, Kyle Schwarber is in left, and Willson Contreras is behind the plate. Ben Zobrist plays second, Jason Heyward is in center, and Nico Hoerner is at short.
They’re facing 25-year-old rookie James Marvel, who’s making just the second start of his MLB career. Not a big strikeout guy in the minors, Marvel sits around 90 mph with his sinker and throws a lot of curves and changeups. His four-seam is actually his least-used pitch, which means he’s a lot like some of the other pitchers the Cubs have struggled against.
After yesterday, however, taking the mound at Wrigley is a daunting proposition. Marvel does a good job of keeping the ball on the ground, so the Cubs may not be able to rely on the longball in this one. Or maybe they will just buck the trends.
Kyle Hendricks brings his 1.77 home ERA to the mound against a team that may still be reeling a bit. He dominated the Pirates a month ago in Pittsburgh, so how about more of the same in this one?
First pitch is at 1:20pm CT on NBC Sports Chicago, MLB Network (out-of-market), and 670 The Score.
