Cubs Reduce Spring Roster to 47 Players

The Cubs announced Monday that righty Keegan Thompson has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa and infielder/outfielder Trent Giambrone (pictured) has been assigned to minor league camp. Those moves take the spring roster from 49 to 47 with just over two weeks left before the start of the regular season.

The current spring roster consists of 26 pitchers (six non-roster invitees), four catchers (two NRI), eight infielders (two NRI), and nine outfielders (five NRI).
