Cubs Select Kyle Ryan from AAA, Option Cory Abbott, DFA Robert Stock
The Cubs have selected lefty pitcher Kyle Ryan from Triple-A Iowa and optioned right-handed pitcher Cory Abbott to Iowa. To make room for Ryan on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Robert Stock has been designated for assignment.
Ryan is in his fourth stint with the Cubs this season and has no record with a 3.38 ERA in three relief appearances. He was designated for assignment on May 7 and outrighted to Iowa, where he was 2-0 with one save, a 1.93 ERA, and a .080 WHIP while striking out 22 with five walks.
Abbott, 25, has no record with a 4.32 ERA in four relief appearances during his debut season. He is 1-3 with a 6.03 ERA in six starts for Iowa this year.
The 31-year-old Stock made his Cubs debut this past Wednesday in a start against the Mets, allowing five runs in four innings. He has appeared in nine games for Triple-A Iowa this season, going 0-3 with a 4.12 ERA.
