Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/18/22): Cubs 7, Giants 3 – Stroman Struts His Stuff in Cubs Win
New addition Marcus Stroman made his Cubs spring debut in Scottsdale against the Giants on Friday night, leading the staff by pitching well in a lopsided victory.
San Francisco ace Logan Webb shut the Cubs down in the first two innings of the game, but it was a different story when Bryan Brickhouse came on and gave up four runs in the 3rd inning. Rafael Ortega‘s RBI single and a Frank Schwindel double were the big blows in the frame.
Another new Cub, Clint Frazier, knocked in a pair of runs in the 5th inning with a bloop single. Both teams would add late runs as Chicago took home a 7-3 victory. (Box score)
Why the Cubs Won
The Giants got absolutely nothing going on offense most of the game. Meanwhile, the Cubs bats took advantage of a young pitcher in his first major league game.
Key Moment
Stroman did a little strut after he froze Wilmer Flores on a called strike three in the bottom of the 1st inning.
Stro freezes the hitter then freezes himself to celebrate.

Stats That Matter
- It was a very good debut for Stroman: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 3 K, and 0 BB.
- Frazier also had two walks and made a nice sliding catch in his first Cubs appearance.
- Schwindel continues to put up solid at-bats whenever he plays adding a walk to his double.
Bottom Line
This game of course means nothing, but, it is good to see number zero out there on the mound.
