Cubs Trade Sergio Alcántara to D-backs for Cash Considerations
The Cubs announced Sunday that they have traded infielder Sergio Alcántara to the D-backs for a cash consideration, an unsurprising move given the glut of middle infielders and the fact that they DFA’d him Wednesday to make room for Mychal Givens on the 40-man roster. Alcántara logged 255 plate appearances with the Cubs last year, batting .205 with a .630 OPS while playing short, second, and third.
It’s looking more and more like all that depth the front office built following the lockout is going to be thinned through several small trades and procedural moves than with a big splash. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.
