Watch: Matt ‘Mash’ Mervis Lives Up to Moniker, Absolutely Goes Off in Arizona Fall League
Matt Mervis didn’t get the call-up to Chicago this year but you can be assured that we’ll be seeing him at Wrigley Field in 2023. He finished 2022 with a .309/.379/.605 slash line and hit 36 home runs with 119 RBI across South Bend (High-A), Tennessee (Double-A), and Iowa (Triple-A). He also earned Cubs’ Minor League Player of the Year honors.
Mervis started a bit slow in the Arizona Fall League, posting a .133/.235/.400 slash line with a home run and a double over his first 15 at-bats. He was locked in on Thursday night, however, bashing two home runs, as you’ll see below, and one double. He finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. A very nice night for him. It’s going to be exciting to watch him build off of this performance over the remainder of the AFL season, which lasts until November 12. Be sure to stay tuned.
