Cubs Sending Alexander Canario, Kevin Alcántara, James Triantos, 5 Pitchers to Arizona Fall League

I’m about a day late on this one and if I’m being totally honest with you, I don’t have the energy to devote to a detailed post on the topic. Maybe this can be fleshed out a little more in the future, but for now we’ll just briefly touch on the eight players the Cubs are sending to the Arizona Fall League.

Outfielder Kevin Alcántara will get a chance to face a little advanced pitching after his brief experience at Double-A here at the end of the season, as will infielder James Triantos. Alexander Canario will get a chance to make up for lost time at the beginning of the season due to a nasty injury last winter and currently due to the Cubs’ machinations. I believe the club is intentionally throttling his playing time to allow him to rest that surgically repaired ankle while collecting an MLB paycheck.

Righties Nick Hull, Tyler Santana, Chris Kachmar, and José Romero, along with lefty Adam Laskey. Only Kachmar and Laskey have reached the Double-A level, and the latter has only made five appearances there. The AFL will be a very tough test for those less experienced players, so the Cubs are hoping to get them some more reps while also seeing how they respond.

And for those wondering, no, Laskey is not related to former California University cultural anthropology professor Jeremiah Laskey. It’s a good thing too, because I still have a bone to pick with that guy for his improper relationship with Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell: The College Years. I wasn’t a big fan of Patrick Fabian’s character on Better Call Saul either.
