Cubs Place Brad Boxberger on IL with Forearm Strain, Recall Keegan Thompson
Brad Boxberger‘s season, and likely his tenure with the Cubs, is over now that he has been placed on the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain. That’s the same injury that landed him on the shelf back in May, after which another setback forced him to go on the 60-day IL. On the whole, he pitched just 20 innings in 22 appearances with a 4.95 ERA.
By my unofficial count, this is the 68th forearm strain for the Cubs’ pitching staff this season. Not nice.
Keegan Thompson has been recalled for his third stint with Chicago this season, the first two of which resulted in a 4.71 ERA, 19 walks, and 26 strikeouts in 19 relief appearances. In 20 outings with the I-Cubs, he is 2-0 with an 8.10 ERA (27 ER/30.0 IP), including a 3.93 ERA (8 ER/18.1 IP) in 11 outings since July 29.
