Chicago Cubs Lineup (4/9/24): Brown Gets First MLB Start, Morel at Third, Gomes Catching
Let’s just forget last night happened and move on with faith that scoring eight runs will be enough to win most games. Well, as long as the bullpen gets shored up a little bit. The pitching staff has already suffered several injuries, the latest of which was to its collective stride, but things should level out over time.
Ben Brown came on in relief when he made his season debut, then worked as the bulk man his next time out, and now he’s the official starter. The Cubs could really use some length out of him in this one, but he’ll need to be efficient.
Ian Happ will lead off tonight playing left, followed by Seiya Suzuki in right, Cody Bellinger in center, and Christopher Morel at third. Dansby Swanson is at short, Michael Busch at first, Nico Hoerner is playing second, Garrett Cooper is DH, and Yan Gomes is behind the dish.
They’re up against big Joe Musgrove, who’s off to a rough start to the season with a 6.28 ERA over three outings. He’s struck out 12 in 14.1 innings, but he’s given up 20 hits and has walked four batters. Musgrove has been pretty good about keeping the ball in the yard, but the Cubs should be able to do damage if he keeps giving up that much contact.
First pitch is at 9:05pm CT on Marquee, TBS, and 670 The Score.
Here is tonight's #Cubs starting lineup in San Diego.
