Cubs Place Luke Little on IL, Recall Ethan Roberts, Add Javier Assad as 27th Man
Pretty basic stuff, so I’m just saving time by leveraging the press release…
The Cubs activated right-handed pitcher Javier Assad from the 15-day injured list as the club’s “27th man” for today’s doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals. Additionally, the Cubs recalled right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa and placed left-handed pitcher Luke Little on the 15-day injured list with a left shoulder strain.
Assad, 26, is 4-3 with a 3.04 ERA in 16 starts for the Cubs this season and is expected to start game two of today’s doubleheader. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 27 (retroactive to June 24) with a right forearm extensor strain.
Roberts, 27, has made three relief appearances for the Cubs this season. He hasn’t allowed a run in 3.0 innings pitched. With Triple-A Iowa this season, Roberts did not allow a run in 12 relief appearances (13.1 IP) and struck out 18.
Little, 23, is 3-1 with a 3.46 ERA (10 ER/26.0 IP) in 30 relief appearances—one start—for the Cubs this season while holding hitters to a .174 batting average (15-for-86).
The Cubs play the St. Louis Cardinals in a doubleheader today at Busch Stadium, with game one scheduled for 1:15 p.m. and game two at 7:15 p.m. CT. Both games can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score and 1200 WRTO.
