Kyle Hendricks Reportedly Close to Signing 1-Year Deal with Angels
Hey, is there something other than baseball dominating the headlines recently or am I the only one who got totally wrapped up in the NFL trade deadline? Anyway, the world continues to spin on its axis for the time being and the MLB offseason grinds on with rumors and speculation galore. Though there have been no developments involving the Cubs directly, Bruce Levine reported Wednesday that Kyle Hendricks is close to an agreement on a one-year deal with the Angels.

Whether the goal is to finish his career there or pitch well enough in a low-pressure environment to earn a trade to a contender, it makes sense for the Newport Beach native to end up in SoCal. This would also reunited Hendricks with fellow Cubs World Series champ Jorge Soler, giving the Angels one more such player than the Cubs themselves have (Rob Zastryzny). The Angels are also said to be looking at free agency righty Nathan Eovaldi, so maybe they’re looking to be more competitive with a more value-based approach than we’ve seen from them in the past.
Whatever the case, I hope Hendricks shoves and makes the most of next season and the remainder of his career.
