The Rundown: Pedro Strop Injured in Car Crash, Diamondbacks to Sign Yasmany Tomas
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was spent with family and more good food than I could handle.
And as it turned out, we strategically planned lunch to coincide with the start of the second half of the Bears game. So I was saved from that mess, which is nice.
Some potentially scary news broke late last night, as Cubs reliever Pedro Strop was reportedly involved in a car accident in the Dominican Republic, the Sun-Times’ Brian Sandalow writes, citing a report from El Nuevo Diario.
Details are pretty scarce at this point, but it sounds like Strop is OK:

Hopefully everyone involved in the crash is alright.
Strop was a key part of the Cubs bullpen last year, posting a 2.21 ERA (2.66 FIP) in 61 innings with 71 strikeouts. He came to the Cubs along with RHP Jake Arrieta for pitcher Scott Feldman and backup catcher Steve Clevenger in 2013.
Other notes
* The Diamondbacks have agreed on a deal with Cuban outfielder Yasmany Tomas for six years, $68.5 million, according to Jesse Sanchez. Tomas, only 24, reportedly has a ton of power. The Cubs were never really rumored to be in on Tomas. We’ll have to see if the signing speeds up a potential trade of catcher Miguel Montero, whom the Cubs have reportedly inquired about.

It’s pretty obvious teams are going to wait and see what happens with free agent pitcher Jon Lester before trying to make a deal for Hamels. They’ll possibly wait for signings of pitchers James Shields and Max Scherzer as well.
