Carl Edwards Jr. Promoted to Iowa

The Chicago Cubs promoted Carl Edwards, Jr. from AA Tennessee to AAA Iowa. Edwards is currently the second ranked prospect in the Cubs system according to MLB.com. This year he has been used solely in relief. The 23 year old made 13 appearances for Tennessee with a 2.66 ERA. In his last 8 appearances he has only allowed 2 earned runs in 14 innings (1.28 ERA) while striking out 25 and walking 7.

Edwards has been throwing in the mid-to-upper 90’s in a relief role this year. The Cubs felt that this would strengthen his shoulder, as last year he had problems with it as a starter. Edwards was in the closer’s role this year at Tennessee and likely will continue in the same role at Iowa.

Look for Edwards to continue working on his command and limiting his walks. He could be called up to Chicago by mid-August.
