Initial Rumors Indicate Kyle Schwarber Won’t Miss Significant Time

Until the Cubs release anything official, I’ll advise that you take any information with a grain of salt. But if David Kaplan is correct, that’s a helluva lot better than taking bad Kyle Schwarber news with a spoonful of sugar.

Scratched from yesterday’s start with amorphous “sore ribs,” there was a fear that Schwarber had suffered a dreaded oblique strain, which seems to be MLB’s injury du jour. Tommy La Stella missed most of the season with said malady and Jorge Soler is currently convalescing after being diagnosed with an oblique issue of his own. Like the high ankle sprain, this injury is one that varies in severity and recovery time.

But if Kaplan is accurate, it sounds more like the Cubs catcher-cum-left fielder got a little banged-up when he dove for a Joey Votto fly ball the other day. This is incredibly good news for a team that has dropped 6 of 9 games and 3 straight series. Speaking of good news, the Giants have now lost 5 in a row and have seen their playoff odds drop to 7.4 percent.
