Cubs Cut Spring Roster From 56 To 45
The Cubs made some expected cuts to their spring roster today, sending 11 players to minor league camp. That will take the spring roster from 56 to 45 players as they work their way to the 25-man opening day roster. Here’s a list of the players along with where they are being assigned.
- Carl Edward, Jr. RHP
- Pierce Johnson RHP
- C.J. Riefenhauser LHP
- Wilson Contreras C
- Arismendy Alcantara 2B
- Jeimer Candelario 3B
Non-roster invitees
- Stephen Fife RHP
- Edgar Olmos LHP
- Felix Pena RHP
- Drew Rucinski RHP
- Taylor Davis C
All the rostered players are heading to AAA except, perhaps the Cubs hottest hitter this spring, Jeimer Candelario. Although Jeimer is scheduled to start at AA, don’t be surprised if he quickly moves up to AAA.
