Postgame Wrap: Cubs 2, Giants 5; Strop and Rondon Solid Again

It felt like one of those lazy days at the park today…kinda like when spring training is coming to an end and everyone is ready to watch some baseball that counts. Lackey was on the mound and I’d say he felt about the same way. He went five innings, giving up five runs on six hits and six strikeouts. When he wasn’t striking batters out it seemed like he was pitching from behind in the count. I’m not sure if he was toying with something today or what, but he was definitely hot or cold with little in between. Here’s the score in a box if you’d like to check it out.

The highlight of the game for me was seeing both Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon each pitch one solid, easy inning. I know there were some rumblings earlier this spring because both of these guys were getting hit hard and often, so it’s nice and settling to know they are who we thought they were. Solid, that is.

Offensively, there wasn’t a whole lot to speak about today. Jeff Samardzija pitched well and the Cubs couldn’t get much going at all against him. Although Addison Russell hit a home run (his third this spring) in the sixth inning of Samardzija, which was one of two runs for the Cubs today.

Cubs take on the the Mariners tomorrow (Happy Easter everyone!) with Hammel taking the mound at 3:05 CDT.
